About LittleBigPlanet 2

LittleBigPlanet 2 arrived on January 18, 2011 as the second main entry from Media Molecule on PlayStation 3. This adventure platformer shifts focus from just playing levels to building them. You guide Sackboy through Craftworld after an inter-dimensional vacuum named the Negativitron starts sucking up everyone. Larry Da Vinci leads a secret group called The Alliance to stop the chaos. The game includes Sackbot armies and lets you create your own puzzles. It serves as a massive hub for community creativity while offering a solid single-player campaign to test new mechanics.

Gameplay

You run, jump, and glide through physics-heavy stages using simple button inputs. The core loop involves collecting orange buttons to unlock areas before facing level design challenges. New tools like the suction device let you grab objects mid-air or stick them to walls. You can switch costumes for special abilities, such as shooting fireballs or turning into a robot. Most of your time actually spent in the game involves the editor mode where you place assets and script logic. A typical session might start with a campaign mission followed by hours of tweaking level triggers or playing community creations shared online.

What Players Think

Players on PlayPile rate this title highly, averaging an IGDB score of 88.2 out of 100 based on 166 ratings. The mood is overwhelmingly positive, with users praising the editor depth more than the story. Average playtime sits around 25 hours for the main campaign but jumps to over 80 hours for those diving into creation tools. Review snippets frequently mention the "infinite replayability" factor since new levels drop daily. Completion rates show that 64% of players finish the main story while only 12% unlock all hidden achievements. Critics and fans alike agree the multiplayer co-op mode remains a highlight for group play sessions.

PlayPile's Take

This is worth your time if you enjoy tinkering with game mechanics rather than just pressing buttons. The price on the secondary market varies but the value comes from the endless content library. You will spend more time in the level editor than completing the 30 main chapters. Achievements are locked behind specific creation challenges which can be tricky for casual builders. Do not expect a traditional narrative drive since the story just sets up your creative freedom. Pick this up if you want to make games and not just play them.

Storyline

Players continue Sackboy's journey after the events of the first game and the portable version are brought to an end. An inter-dimensional vacuum cleaner called the Negativitron appears over the skies of LittleBigPlanet and begins to suck up its inhabitants, including Sackboy. Larry Da Vinci (Robbie Stevens), the leader of a semi-secret semi-organised group known as "The Alliance", comes to Sackboy's rescue, saving him from the Negativitron (Jeremy Mayne). The organisation is dedicated to battling with the Negativitron and defeating it before it destroys Craftworld (Alternate name for game's environment). After Sackboy passes the tests in Larry's Hideout, he tells him that they must get to Victoria Von Bathysphere's (Judy Sweeney) Laboratory, since she has built a Sackbot army for the Alliance.
