About LittleBigPlanet PS Vita

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita launched on September 19, 2012 as a portable port of the beloved platformer series. Double Eleven developed this version specifically for Sony Computer Entertainment to bring Sackboy's adventures to the handheld screen. The game fits squarely into the platform genre while adding layers of creativity and community interaction. You play as a stitched character navigating colorful worlds filled with physics-based puzzles. This iteration brings the full single-player campaign plus multiplayer modes to a device you can hold in one hand. It stands apart from previous entries by leveraging the Vita's unique touch controls for both new mechanics and local multiplayer fun.

Gameplay

You control Sackboy through side-scrolling levels where jumping and grabbing objects form the core loop. The game introduces mini-games that break up the platforming rhythm with racing or puzzle challenges. A major shift comes from using the rear touch panel to push objects toward your character or build new platforms mid-level. You can also tap the front screen to interact with items without stopping your movement. The campaign offers a set path, but you can jump into online multiplayer for up to four players. Local co-op works well too, though the touch interface changes how you handle things compared to console versions. Sessions vary from short puzzle runs to longer creative stages where you build your own levels using in-game parts.

What Players Think

Critics and players alike responded strongly to this handheld adaptation. Metacritic awarded the game an 88 out of 100, reflecting high praise for its controls and content depth. PlayPile data shows that community engagement remains high with a completion rate hovering near 75% among regular users. The average playtime sits around 22 hours for those who finish the main story, though many spend far more time in level creation tools. Review snippets from our user base frequently mention the rear touch panel as a game-changer despite initial learning curves. Moods are generally positive with an 85% "liked" rating across recent reviews. Players appreciate that the mobile version does not feel like a watered-down experience compared to its console siblings.

PlayPile's Take

This title is worth your time if you enjoy physics puzzles and want portable creative freedom. The price point varies by region but often sits low for a game of this depth. There are over 50 achievements to unlock, encouraging players to master every mechanic. While the camera angles can feel cramped in tight spaces, the control scheme adapts well once you get used to it. Do not buy this if you only want pure action without puzzle elements. The level editor adds infinite replay value for those willing to learn its system. It remains a solid choice for Vita owners looking for a substantial platformer that respects their time.

Storyline

As in previous titles in the LittleBigPlanet series, players control a character named Sackboy through a variety of worlds utilising the character's various abilities such as jumping and grabbing objects. It also features various non-platforming mini-games. Numerous multiplayer options are available. As well as up to four-player online competitive or co-op gameplay, the PlayStation Vita's multi-touch display can be used by two players for competitive games. "Pass'n'Play" is also available, enabling turn-based gameplay. The Vita's rear touchpanel is also used for pushing objects toward the player, creating platforms out of parts of the world.
