You create a character to explore three distinct worlds, gathering spells to build custom decks and fight enemies in real time. Combat blends melee attacks with quick-cast magic letting you swap between swordplay and fireballs mid battle. Up to three players can team up to tackle story missions or player vs environment modes. The game emphasizes loot progression with new gear and spells offering fresh combinations for each playthrough. The game shut down its online features October 2021 so multiplayer options are limited now. Critics called the single player campaign "modest but competent" with 70 hour playtime estimates. Players praise the deck building depth though some found the story lacks the mythic weight of older Magic media. Co op is smooth but the early 2021 release left many hoping for longer support. Still the core loop of exploring planes and refining spell combos remains satisfying for fans of the franchise.
