"When you take a step back and look at the "big picture," at least on paper, MLB The Show 21 is a success. That said, when it's your first entry in a new console generation, the bar for success is admittedly quite low. For this reason, not to mention the meager distinctions between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, it's fairly difficult to justify the extra expense of making the jump to next-generation hardware. That said, if you decide to take the plunge and pick up the PlayStation 5 version, you won't be disappointed by the latest in a franchise that keeps knocking it out of the park."

MLB 98 is a baseball simulation game for PlayStation that lets you manage and play through single-player modes with 30 major league teams. You can track stats, build custom players, and choose from six game types including exhibition matches and season-long play. The action is called by PA announcer Mike Carlucci adding a live atmosphere to each at-bat. The cover features New York Yankees’ Bernie Williams a standout player of the era. Controls focus on timing and strategy with swing mechanics and fielding choices shaping your performance. The game stands out for its detailed player creation and authentic team rosters from 1998. While the audio relies on pre-recorded commentary it still captures the rhythm of the sport. A direct follow-up to earlier 90s baseball games it added more modes and customization than previous entries. Without multiplayer or online features it’s a straightforward sim for fans of the early PlayStation baseball scene. The sequel MLB 99 introduced Vin Scully but this version remains a snapshot of late 90s baseball gaming.
