Oni V is the fifth entry in a long-running action RPG series adapted for Game Boy. It follows a warrior navigating feudal Japan’s political turmoil, battling demons and rival clans. Combat is turn-based but retains the series’ emphasis on timing and elemental weaknesses. The handheld port strips away some of the earlier games’ complexity but keeps core mechanics intact. Simple visuals and chiptune music fit the portable format, though the small screen makes reading dialogue a strain. This 1995 release is notable as the last Game Boy entry in the franchise. While not as celebrated as later console entries, it has a niche following for its challenge and adherence to traditional JRPG structure. With no modern re-releases, it’s a relic for completionists. The game’s difficulty curve and lack of modern conveniences like autosave may test patience, but fans of classic handheld RPGs might find it worth tracking down.
