Oumagatoki: Kaidan Romance is a visual novel that splits its high school setting between day and night. By day humans attend classes. At night ancient spirits take over the same classrooms. Suzue Shizuka a girl with a water spirit bloodline struggles to control her powers. She avoids swimming but her energy forces her into clashes with other spirits. Her friendship with the chaotic Hisoka and clashes with authority figures drive the story. Players navigate schoolyard antics and supernatural conflicts through dialogue choices. The game mixes mundane high school drama with weird folklore. Students include a centuries old spirit posing as a freshman. The school’s dual nature creates odd encounters. While not a commercial giant it built a niche following for its quirky tone and character dynamics. The series expanded into two more trilogies keeping the same world but new leads. Fans often cite the contrast between normal teen issues and magical chaos as a highlight.

Storyline

Suzue Shizuka seems like your average high school girl….except that she’s the descendant of a great water spirit. She has no family so she spends most of her time floating around the school pool even though she hates swimming and water. Because of her blood, she has a ton of power inside of her and unless she lets loose by getting into fights with other spirits at the school, she comes down with a fever and her powers go out of control. Typically she and her good friend Hisoka run around causing trouble and annoying the student council president and teachers. The school they attend is an average school with humans attending the day classes. At night however, it’s the “Witching Hour” where all the spirits come out and “play school” despite some of them being over thousands of years old.
