PoPoRoGue is a turn-based RPG sequel set in a whimsical fantasy world where combat is a tactical dance. Instead of random encounters, enemies are visible onscreen, letting you navigate around them or risk fleeing. If you bolt, they’ll pursue you through the dungeon, forcing quick thinking or a rematch. The story follows Pietoro, a bored hero who sneaks out of his castle, only for a giant cloud to tear the continent skyward. Gameplay balances exploration, character growth, and strategic battles in a world that’s equal parts quirky and chaotic. The game’s standout is its active combat system, which demands awareness and adaptability over passive grinding. With roots in a 1996 Japanese release, it builds on its predecessor’s charm while standing alone. Available on PlayStation, PSP, and PS3, it’s a relic from a different era of RPGs. Though its quirky tone and older design may not appeal to everyone, fans of classic turn-based adventures with a dash of humor might find it oddly endearing.
It has been two years since Pietoro and company have defeated the evil Ice demon and his cronies, Pietoro has grown bored with every day life (Especially studying!), so he decides to escape from the castle.(For those of you who really care Poporogue takes place after the animation series. Thus the story can be followed by playing Popolocrois, watching all the anime, and then playing Poporogue. Whether you do this or not makes no difference as far as the story is concerned. Still the game is cooler if you've played Popolocrois before.) He sneaks out of the castle and explores the town, finally ending up dozing off in nearby grasslands. Everything is all La De Da until. A giant cloud covers Popolocrois and sucks half the continent into the sky!!
