"I rarely find myself playing escape room games for longer than an hour at a time, but Prison Princess held my attention for more than 11. The game’s intelligent design and inergetic princesses had me wishing that we could get caught in more castles together."

Princess Minerva is a classic 16-bit RPG where you lead a team of nine female characters against a sorceress trying to turn girls into monsters. The story starts with Minerva and her bodyguards stripped of weapons, armor, and cash, forcing you to scavenge and steal to survive. Turn-based battles require managing limited resources and positioning, with each character having distinct abilities. Exploration and item hunting are key as you rebuild your gear while navigating a story focused on camaraderie and rescue missions. The game stands out for its all-female cast and lighthearted tone despite dark stakes. Though obscure outside Japan, it spawned an animated movie, manga, and novels, hinting at its cult following. Fans of retro JRPGs with charm over spectacle might appreciate its strategic depth and quirky humor. Its 1990s-era charm and surprisingly modern themes of teamwork and empowerment linger beneath dated visuals.
In the game, the evil sorceress Dynastar challenges Princess Minerva, threatening to kidnap all the girls in the world and turn them into monsters. Minerva leaves with her eight personal female bodyguards to defeat Dynastar and her six also female demon generals. The game starts when all their weapons, armor and money gets stolen.
