Puyo Puyo 7 shifts the series to a real-world inspired setting where players match colorful gelatinous blobs to prevent a Puyo-fueled flood. The core mechanics remain fast-paced puzzle combat but the Transformation mode adds a new layer letting you alter board layouts mid-match. Story mode breaks into six acts with multiple episodes per chapter though you start with only Ringo as your playable character. Each act unfolds across distinct environments with a focus on linear progression rather than the branching paths of earlier entries. The game stands out for reintroducing classic faces from past installments as playable options or cameos creating a bridge between new and veteran fans. Completing the story unlocks alternate scenarios where previously sidelined characters take control offering fresh perspectives on key moments. Available on Wii PSP and DS it maintains the series' accessibility while adding strategic depth through its transformation system. Released in 2009 it still holds a cult following for its balanced mix of puzzle action and character-driven narrative.
The main story follows Ringo's mission to try and stop Puyo from flooding her world. Instead of the course system used in previous games, the story is divided into six linear acts, each act taking place in several different areas, and each act being divided into several episodes. Although some characters seem to join the party in a sort of Puyo Puyo~n fashion, the player is only allowed to use Ringo for the first playthrough. Completion of the game allows for the use of the other party members when one replays the episodes, leading to alternate scenarios.
