Quest for Glory IV drops you in the eerie land of Mordavia after a mysterious spell dumps your hero in a pitch-black cave empty-handed. Navigate foggy swamps and a tense town where locals hide secrets while balancing adventure puzzles with RPG progression. Choose from four classes or import a prior game character to level skills through repetition, chop wood to boost strength, practice lockpicking to crack tough chests. Combat shifts to side-scrolling action here, letting you dodge, leap, and strike in real time instead of menu-based battles. The game’s standout is its risky combat overhaul which feels ahead of its 1993 release. Players used to the series’ methodical puzzles might struggle with the timing-based fights but many praise the freshness. The Slavic-inspired setting and voice work on the CD edition add layers of mood without slowing down the mix of exploration and quick-time threats. Classic QfG fans note it’s darker and more demanding than earlier entries but still packed with clever traps and character-driven mysteries.
