Rayman 3 HD is a 3D platformer that shifts focus from clever puzzles to fast-paced combat and acrobatics. Play as Rayman navigating colorful but chaotic levels filled with enemies to punch, kick, and spin-attack. The game mixes exploration with action, as you collect items, rescue characters, and fight through waves of black-lit baddies. Movement feels fluid with double-jumps and wall-kicks, though the camera occasionally struggles in tight spaces. Released in 2012 as an HD remaster for older consoles, it updates the third main entry in the Rayman series with sharper visuals and refined mechanics. The game stands out for its quirky humor and vibrant art style, blending hand-drawn animation with 3D environments. Its story involves a shadowy figure named André turning friendly creatures into grotesque villains, leading to Rayman’s usual mix of slapstick and heroics. Though some levels lean heavy on combat repetition, the creative boss fights and playful world design keep things engaging. Still praised for its energy and charm, it holds a 78% on Metacritic from 2012 reviews. The HD upgrade made it a solid entry for fans looking to revisit the series on modern systems without the full next-gen leap.
One night, a Black Lum, who was supposedly said to have grown out of pure evil, named André appears, and transforms other Red Lums into Black Lums to join him. The group eventually gains enough hair from various animals throughout the forest to dress themselves as scarecrow-like Hoodlums. In the middle of the process, Murfy, one of the residents and workers of the Fairy Council, discovers them. André later discovers him hiding nearby, and he and his Black Lums pursue him. Murfy is chased to a small clearing, where Rayman and his friend Globox are sound asleep. Just after Murfy reaches them, Globox is awakened by the commotion. Now aware of the situation, Globox helps Murfy to try and get Rayman, who is still asleep, to safety. In the process, Globox accidentally removes Rayman's hands, forcing Murfy to pick Rayman up by his hair and fly him away from the clearing himself. In an attempt to save himself, Globox runs away to safety, taking Rayman's hands along with him.
