RayStorm is a vintage sci-fi shooter where you pilot a high-tech spacecraft through eight chaotic stages of alien-infested space. You'll blast waves of enemies using a combination of rapid-fire lasers and homing missiles that track multiple targets. The game emphasizes fast-paced action with tight controls and escalating difficulty as you progress from Earth's orbit to the heart of an enemy mothership. Each stage throws new enemy types and boss fights at you requiring quick reflexes and weapon management. Originally a 1996 PlayStation launch title, RayStorm has survived on numerous platforms including PC mobile and modern consoles. Its straightforward yet challenging design appeals to retro gaming fans with a Metacritic score of 78. The multiplayer mode lets two players team up for cooperative runs though most ports focus on single player. While the story of interstellar war is delivered through brief text screens the real draw is the relentless shooting action that still feels satisfying after 25 years.
The year is 2219 and the Secilia Federation has initiated a plan to destroy Earth. So far, the evil federation has been highly successful in destroying much of the planet's defensive forces and resources. With world destruction at hand, the fate of mankind is looking for a savior. Unbeknownst to the federation, the Star Federation, an Earth-based organization, has been developing two highly sophisticated aircraft known as the R-Gray prototypes. These destructive machines are packed with homing missiles, laser cannons and other crippling weapons. As the planet's hero, you'll control either R-Gray ship, taking to the skies in a desperate mission to stop the Secilia Federation from carrying out their plans.
