Resistance Burning Skies is a third-person shooter built for PlayStation Vita that follows a fresh story in the Resistance universe. You play as Tom Riley navigating a burning Staten Island power station during a Chaopper war. The game uses dual analog sticks for movement and aiming while blending tight gunplay with cover-based combat. The opening mission has you separated from your team after a floor collapses forcing you to fight through hostile zones to regroup. Later sections let you team up with another player in co op or take on AI partners. The story focuses on Tom’s survival during a Chaopper attack with writing that ties into larger Resistance lore. It makes strong use of Vita’s controls including motion sensing for aiming. Though shorter than main series entries it has a 79% Metacritic score from 2012 reviews praising its fast gunplay and portable design. The Staten Island setting brings more urban combat than previous games while keeping the series’ signature alien action intact.
The story begins with Tom Riley, along with Engine 174, driving through Staten Island. They eventually arrive at a burning power station. Not long after entering the station, Tom is seperated from his fellow firemen, when he falls through a weak floorboard. After making his way back up the station, Tom witnesses a fellow firemen get abducted and killed by a Longleg. Startled, Tom gathers his wits, and fights his way to fellow firefighter Smitty, the only other survivor. The two eventually make it out of the station, and into the war-torn streets of Staten Island.
