Rudra no Hihou drops you into a fantasy world based on Indian folklore where humanity has just fifteen days left to survive. You control one of three distinct characters like the soldier Sion or priestess Riza while moving through separate storylines that play out in parallel. The game uses a fixed day and night cycle where your choices in one scenario can change what happens for another character later on. Combat relies on a flexible magic system that lets you craft spells rather than picking from a set list of moves. Once you finish the three main chapters, you unlock a final adventure featuring a thief named Dune who teams up with your previous heroes to face the ultimate villains. This title stands out because it forces you to manage time across different perspectives without holding hands on what to do next. Players often praise how items left behind by one group can be found by another weeks later in their own timeline. The game launched on Super Famicom before appearing on Wii, and fans still talk about its ambitious structure for a role-playing title from 1996. It feels less like a standard linear quest and more like a complex puzzle where every decision ripples through the remaining days of the world.
The story is divided into three major scenarios, each with a different main character: the soldier Sion, the priestess Riza, and the archaeologist Surlent. As the player enters new areas and accomplishes different tasks, the human race's final 15 days slowly ebb away in a predetermined day/night cycle. The player is free to play the scenarios in any order, and may even leave one storyline to follow that of another character for a time. The actions of the characters in one location and time may have an effect on the others, as well, both in the general story and in gameplay. For example, if one group of characters leaves a sacred relic somewhere, another character may come and find it on a later day in their own part of the game. After successfully completing all three scenarios, players must take on a fourth, featuring the roving thief Dune and the heroes from the previous three chapters in their final confrontation with the game's major villains.
