Ruff 'N' Tumble is a side-scrolling shooter where you play a guy named Ruff Rogers who needs to recover stolen marbles. You run jump and duck through 16 levels firing your starting pistol before upgrading to better weapons like machine guns and flamethrowers. Enemies pop up from all directions but your character handles with tight controls letting you aim in any direction while moving. The goal shifts from just shooting everything to tracking down specific colored marbles scattered through each level. Progress depends on gathering quotas of three marble types which convert to coins when you collect enough of a single color. These coins boost your life count or score multiplier. Hidden switches in levels create checkpoints but you’ll probably die a lot anyway. The Amiga version from 1994 has aged but the core loop of gunplay and collection remains straightforward. Some forums mention the difficulty curve gets rough around level 10 but fans of 90s action-platformers with simple goals might find it nostalgic.
