SD Gundam World: Gachapon Senshi 2 - Capsule Senki is a turn-based strategy game where players command squads of Gundam mechs to outmaneuver opponents. The core gameplay revolves around tactical positioning and resource management, with a distinctive twist: during battles, a vending machine randomly drops new units into play, mirroring the real-world gachapon toy capsules. This second entry in the Famicom series expands on its predecessor's mechanics while retaining the grid-based combat and mech customization. Developed by Opera House and released in 1989, the game was the first in the SD Gundam World series to ship on physical cartridge rather than disk. It later appeared on the Wii Virtual Console, introducing retro strategy fans to its blend of planning and luck. Though niche, the game holds a cult following for its clever integration of the gachapon gimmick, which adds unpredictable variety to otherwise methodical battles. The MSX and Famicom versions remain its most notable releases, with single-player matches often lasting hours as players test formations and adapt to surprise reinforcements.
