About

Shall We Date? Heian Love is a story-driven visual novel set in the imperial court of Kyoto during the Heian period. You play as a young woman adjusting to court life after growing up in the countryside. A missed poetry contest and a heartfelt anonymous love letter kick off a narrative focused on figuring out secrets and navigating social dynamics. Choices shape interactions with courtiers, each with distinct personalities and agendas. The gameplay leans on dialogue and decision-making rather than combat or puzzles, emphasizing character relationships and historical intrigue. The game stands out for its atmospheric writing and period details, which immerse players in the customs and hierarchies of ancient Japan. While its 2011 release date means the art style feels dated by modern standards, the focus on emotional storytelling and romantic subplots resonates with fans of slow-burn narratives. With single-player only and no multiplayer distractions, it’s a quiet, text-heavy experience that rewards attention to subtle character cues. The mix of mystery and courtly romance keeps the plot engaging, even if the pacing leans deliberate.
