"While it's not as unique or charming as its predecessor That's You, Knowledge Is Power is a solid, fun quiz game for when you've got friends or family around. While it's a little light on actual quizzing, the Power Plays allow for plenty of game-changing moments and inject some tension into the game as everyone scrambles to wipe virtual goo off of their phones and answer first. With another solid game added to its lineup and many more coming over the next few months, Sony's PlayLink service won't be going away anytime soon."

Shino's Insatiable Pursuit of Knowledge is an indie RPG with adventure elements that blends quirky storytelling and inventive puzzle-solving. Developed by Ota Guchi Field and published by Kagura Games, it launched on PC in January 2026. You play as Shino, a socially awkward scientist who uses a memory-reading device called the Brain-Smoothing Device to track down a thief who stole her lab’s funds. The game mixes exploration with a unique mechanic: collecting "Concepts" and "Processes" to unlock new tools, maps, and upgrades. It’s a story about redemption, conspiracy, and a protagonist who’s equal parts genius and disaster. Ideal for fans of dialogue-driven adventures and light RPGs with humor.
The game revolves around open-ended exploration. Shino roams labs, cities, and cult hideouts to gather "Concepts" (ideas like "Electromagnetism") and "Processes" (actions like "Wire Splicing"). Combining them at terminals creates tools like grappling hooks or taser gloves, which are essential for solving environmental puzzles and combat. Combat is turn-based but lacks depth, focusing instead on using inventions creatively, like rewiring a vending machine to drop free snacks. Sessions often involve backtracking: a new invention might open a previously blocked path. Controls are straightforward, with quick save points every few minutes. The Brain-Smoothing Device occasionally alters Shino’s perspective, revealing hidden items or dialogue options.
PlayPile users rate it 4.2/5, with 82% completing the base story. Average playtime is 25 hours, though 40% finish all side quests. The game has 320 achievements, 87% of which are story milestones. Community moods are split: 45% describe it as "curious," 30% as "humorous," and 25% as "suspenseful." Reviews highlight the inventive mechanics but criticize shallow combat. One user wrote, "The concept system makes exploration feel rewarding, even when the puzzles are obvious." Another noted, "The protagonist’s awkward charm kept me laughing through the filler." Critics on Metacritic gave it 84/100, praising the narrative but calling the gameplay "undercooked."
Worth playing if you enjoy story-driven RPGs with a dash of humor and inventive mechanics. At $29.99, it’s a mid-tier buy with 320 achievements that reward exploration but don’t force you to grind. The 25-hour playtime matches similar indie adventures, though combat may feel repetitive to some. Shino’s quirky personality and the concept-building system stand out, but don’t expect deep tactical battles. Best for players who prioritize narrative and experimentation over polish. Not a masterpiece, but a solid, memorable experience for 2026.
Shino is a young scientist who only cares about research and little else, to the point that everybody considers her unsociable. She became interested in science when she found a device that allows her to view traces of memories left around the world in the form of Memory Gales. Unfortunately, she hasn't been very lucky in her endeavors so far... She tends to be quite rigid in her views, which makes it hard for her to effectively use her boss's revolutionary invention method. Everything changes when she tries the Brain-Smoothing Device and finds the flexibility she needs. Okay, maybe she's a bit TOO open-minded now... But this change doesn't come a moment too soon! That very night, the mysterious Phantom Ace steals the lab's funds, threatening all of their livelihoods. And yet, even that is not enough to discourage the new Shino! She's going to find a way to make money and keep the lab running while also investigating the circumstances surrounding the theft! Shino will invent her way through any problem she faces, and in the process she'll uncover a lost past, a sweeping conspiracy, and maybe even find out who created the strange device that inspired her all those years ago...
