Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru is a 2D platformer that swaps medieval samurai tropes for occult action. Play as ninja bounty hunters Tarōmaru or Enkai as you leap across stages filled with floating islands and cursed structures. Each level challenges you to fight demons, solve environmental puzzles, and rescue a kidnapped maiden. The Saturn’s hardware lets the game blend colorful sprite work with dynamic camera angles for its time. Single player or split-screen co-op keeps the pace tight and responsive. This 1997 title stands out for its co-op focus and oddball setting. While the story is straightforward, the gameplay balances platforming precision with direct combat, something not many Saturn titles attempted. The two playable characters have distinct movesets but share the same aggressive style, making local co-op a highlight. With its niche premise and ahead-of-its-time Saturn visuals, it’s a cult favorite for retro fans who appreciate under-the-radar action games.
The player chooses to play as one of two ninja, Tarōmaru or Enkai, who are hired as bounty hunters to defeat powerful demons and save a stolen maiden.
