Time Warner Interactive

United States Founded 1994

In 1989, Warner Communications merged with Time Inc., forming Time Warner. In 1993, Time Warner reacquired a controlling interest in Atari Games and made it a subsidiary of its Time Warner Interactive division. While the company initially maintained the Atari Games brand for arcade games under the new ownership, the Tengen brand was dropped in favor of the Time Warner Interactive label. In mid-1994, the Atari Games, Tengen, and Time Warner Interactive Group names were all consolidated under the Time Warner Interactive banner.

Time Warner Interactive at a Glance

Time Warner Interactive operated as a major publisher during the 1990s before releasing a single title in the next decade. Founded in 1994 through the consolidation of Atari Games, Tengen, and its own internal division, this United States company released 17 games across various platforms. Their catalog includes titles for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and DOS with six releases each, while they also published four games for PC and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The publisher covered a wide range of genres including puzzle, sport, adventure, racing, and platform games. They also ventured into strategy, point-and-click adventures, shooters, simulators, and role-playing games. The quality of their output shows significant variation rather than a consistent track record. Out of the four titles with ratings on PlayPile, one is considered great while another falls into the good range. Two titles received mixed scores, and no games rated poorly. Their highest-rated game is Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition from 2016, which scored 87.5 out of 100. This title stands out as their only release in the 2010s, marking a sharp decline from their active period in the 1990s where they published 16 games. Earlier titles like Endorfun from 1995 scored 71, while Generations Lost and The Dark Eye both received scores in the high 50s. Their platform reach was extensive for the era, covering systems from the Atari Jaguar to the PlayStation. They also released content for Mac and Sega Saturn. The company maintained a presence from 1992 until 2016, though their activity was heavily concentrated in the first two decades of operation. Most of their recent releases listed include Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition alongside older entries like Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru and International Moto X. While they managed to secure a high rating with their final major release, their overall portfolio reflects a mix of solid efforts and average projects spread across many different systems.
