SingStar: Mecano is a vocal performance game centered around the Spanish band’s greatest hits. Using a microphone you sing along to pre recorded tracks while the system measures how well you hit each note’s timing and pitch. The scoring system ignores lyrics and vocal range focusing only on the accuracy of your pitch and rhythm. The interface shows a simple meter that reacts to your input making it easy to follow along even if you’re not a seasoned singer. The game includes 30 tracks spanning Mecano’s career from the 80s to the early 2000s. Up to four players can take turns or sing together in split screen mode. While some may miss vocal recognition for lyrics the emphasis on pure musical accuracy gives it a stripped down feel. Available on PlayStation 2 and 3 it’s a direct entry in the SingStar series with no added mechanics or visual upgrades. The straightforward approach works best for casual players or those already familiar with the band’s music.
