Slither is a fast paced arcade shooter where you steer a snake through waves of enemies. Unlike most side scrollers you fire projectiles in all four directions at once to fend off attackers. The screen fills with hostile snakes that spawn from random edges often in groups. Your goal is to survive as long as possible while clearing the screen with increasing difficulty as the rounds progress. It plays on arcade machines and ColecoVision using the brand specific Roller Controller which handles the directional input. The standout is the ability to attack in multiple directions without slowing down. This creates intense moments where you must prioritize targets quickly. While the gameplay borrows from earlier titles the four way shooting adds a new layer of strategy. It was one of the first games to require a specialized controller which could be a hurdle for modern players. The 1982 release remains beloved by retro fans for its aggressive pacing and clever control mechanics.
