About

Sonic and the Secret Rings is a 3D platformer that reimagines Sonic’s speed in a desert setting. You control Sonic with the Wii Remote held sideways, navigating levels that mix on-rails segments with free-roaming exploration. The story places him in the Arabian Nights universe, where he teams up with a genie named Shahra to collect seven mystical rings. Each level tasks you with platforming, fighting enemies, and solving environmental puzzles while avoiding the villainous Erazor Djinn’s attempts to erase the world. Split-screen co-op lets two players tackle challenges together, though the focus stays on Sonic’s solo antics. What sets it apart is its oddball setting and the Wii’s control gimmick, which feels more like handling a handheld than a motion controller. Reviews at the time praised its creativity and variety, though some found the controls awkward. With a Metacritic score of 73, it’s a forgotten entry in Sonic’s history that blends whimsy with solid platforming. The cursed Sonic’s shifting abilities add a twist to combat and traversal, keeping the gameplay fresh across its 120-minute campaign.
