"Starsand is one of the better survival games, but definitely not the best. I appreciate that the game is set in a desert, since I’ve never played—or perhaps even seen—a game set in the middle of endless sand. Crafting is very simple, the graphics are decent, and the optimization is flawless. Navigating the map is a bit more complicated, though I wouldn’t go so far as to count that as a downside. What I will list as a downside, however, is the occasionally tedious gameplay, where you spend several minutes just running around the desert without really knowing where you’re going. I also think the game lacks enough content to keep me entertained for as many hours as some of my other favorite survival titles."

Starsiege pits players against a rogue AI's galactic assault in the 29th century. Commanding towering humanoid mechs called HERCs, you fight across colonies from Mars to Pluto in either human or machine campaigns. Each path offers distinct goals, rebel against imperial rule or spearhead a robotic invasion, culminating in unique endgame scenarios. Tactical combat blends direct mech-to-mech clashes with resource management as you upgrade armor and weapons between missions. The single-player story spans two warring factions while multiplayer lets up to eight players clash in custom battles. Though released in 1999, Starsiege remains a niche favorite for its dual-narrative design and deep mech customization. Community forums show consistent replays with over 30% of players completing both campaigns. What stands out is the balance between strategic planning and action, every HERC battle requires managing heat levels and ammunition alongside quick reflexes. The setting's political tensions between Earth and colonies add context to each firefight without slowing pace. Its blend of strategy and action keeps it memorable for retro gaming circles.
