About

Steins;Gate: Heni Kuukan no Octet is a retro-styled follow-up to the original game's ending. It swaps modern visual novel mechanics for a 1980s-era text adventure format where players type commands to navigate. The game uses monochrome pixel art with scanline effects, FM synth music, and no voiceovers to recreate the feel of early PC games. It follows a new story where Okabe investigates a mysterious message from his future self, leading him to a character from a related series. This niche entry stands out for its obsessive attention to period-accurate design and hidden connections between MAGES' titles. Fans of the developer's work often cite its clever callbacks and deliberate contrast with the original game's style as a bold experiment. While its obscure format may not appeal to all, it’s a curated experience for those familiar with the series' lore and nostalgic for pixelated aesthetics.

Storyline

The premise of the game features Okabe receiving a D-Mail from himself in 2025 that states that he must save the future by reclaiming an IBN 5100 from a person under of the alias "Knight-hart". This person is Takumi Nishijō of Chaos;Head, as he runs under the same player name in his favorite MMORPG, and the D-Mail stating that "Neidhardt" lives in Shibuya and has "inherent, supernatural abilities", a reference to his power as a gigalomaniac.
