The Blues Brothers is a chaotic platformer where you play as either Jake or Elwood, chasing down concert-hopping objectives while outrunning cops. Each level is a frantic sprint to grab essential gear like guitars or sunglasses before hitting the stage. The controls are tight and responsive, with precise jumps and co-op support letting two players tackle levels together. Levels mix running, dodging, and midair grabs, with a focus on speed over complex puzzles. The final level ramps up the pressure with a stage-bound showdown as sirens close in. Retro fans appreciate the game's split-second timing and the option to play with a friend, a rarity in 1991. While visuals and sound are basic by modern standards, the frantic energy and direct gameplay keep it engaging. With ports on DOS, Amiga, and classic consoles, it remains a cult pick for co-op platformer enthusiasts. The game’s straightforward design and persistent police pursuit create a relentless rush that holds up better than many of its era.
The object of the game is to evade police in order to make it to a blues concert. Player(s) can take control of either Jake or Elwood Blues. Each level is a variation on the jumping theme, with the characters finding a necessary attribute (e.g. a guitar) somewhere in the level. The sixth and final level ends on-stage.
