About

The Chaos Engine 2 is a top-down shooter from The Bitmap Brothers that swaps single-player chaos for split-screen mayhem. You and a friend take control of two unnamed heroes chasing Baron Fortesque through time-warped levels. Each stage crams crumbling ruins, futuristic tech, and explosive hazards into a frantic mix of shooting, dodging, and surviving. The focus is pure action with no slowdown, relying on rapid fire and split-second decisions. Time travel isn’t just a gimmick, levels shift from ancient temples to sci-fi labs, each packed with enemies and environmental traps. The game’s cult following leans into its raw energy and two-player co-op. With a 82% rating on Amiga FAQ, it’s praised for chaotic fun over polish. No returning characters from the first game, but the focus on teamwork and relentless pacing keeps it distinct. Split-screen dominates, making it a local multiplayer standout for those who miss 90s arcade-style intensity. The Bitmap Brothers’ signature humor seeps through in absurd level design, though the sequel’s abrupt release date, December 31, 1996, left some wondering if it was a joke.
