About The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

This title brings the classic N64 adventure to handheld form via a 2011 remake developed by Grezzo. It launches on the Nintendo 3DS as a single-player experience that blends action with heavy puzzle solving. You play as Link, a Kokiri boy guided by his fairy companion Navi toward Hyrule Castle. The story kicks off when the Great Deku Tree falls under a mysterious curse. Link must travel across the kingdom to stop Ganondorf from seizing the Triforce. Grezzo updated every texture and model while boosting the frame rate from twenty to thirty frames per second. The interface also sees a major cleanup for modern controls. This version aims to honor the original concept art while making gameplay feel smoother on a portable screen.

Gameplay

You explore Hyrule Field, waterfalls, and dungeons at your own pace using analog stick movement or D-pad inputs. Combat involves targeting enemies with Z-targeting, dodging rolls, and switching between swords, bows, and items like the Hookshot. Puzzles dominate dungeon sections where you manipulate blocks, solve time-based riddles, and use musical instruments to open paths. The Ocarina mechanics require you to play specific songs to warp locations or alter the environment. You can switch between child and adult Link forms to access new areas. Sessions often last an hour as you backtrack through complex mazes. The game offers a Master Quest mode for players who want tougher enemies after finishing the main story. Controls feel tight, and the 3D visuals help depth perception in platforming sections.

What Players Think

Players on PlayPile rate this title heavily, with Metacritic sitting at 94 out of 100 and IGDB averaging 91.2 from 517 ratings. The community describes the vibe as atmospheric and story-driven rather than casual or cooperative. Average playtime hovers around forty hours for a standard completion. Review snippets frequently mention how the graphics hold up decades later. Some users note that the streamlined UI makes navigation easier than the original N64 version. Completion rates stay high because players rarely quit mid-dungeon due to frustration. The mood remains positive even years after release. People often compare this remake favorably against other handheld ports, citing the consistent frame rate as a major factor. No negative community trends appear in recent data.

PlayPile's Take

This game costs around forty dollars on the 3DS eShop and features twenty-three achievements for completionists. It suits anyone who enjoys methodical exploration and solving logic puzzles without needing multiplayer. The price point reflects its status as a definitive version of a classic. You will spend most of your time managing inventory slots and learning enemy patterns. Critics agree that this remake fixes the original's control issues while keeping the core design intact. Do not expect new story content, but do expect a polished experience. If you have a 3DS, this remains one of the strongest titles available for the system.

Storyline

A young boy named Link was raised in the village of the elf-like Kokiri people. One day a fairy named Navi introduces him to the village's guardian, the Great Deku Tree. It appears that a mysterious man has cursed the tree, and Link is sent to the Hyrule Castle to find out more. Princess Zelda tells Link that Ganondorf, the leader of the Gerudo tribe, seeks to obtain the Triforce, a holy relic that grants immense power to the one who possesses it. Link must do everything in his power to obtain the Triforce before Ganondorf does, and save Hyrule.
