Time Trax is a side-scrolling action game where you play as Darien Lambert a futuristic police officer tracking down fugitives who have fled to 1993. The game blends platforming and shooting mechanics as you navigate levels filled with obstacles and enemies. It released in late 1994 for SNES and Mega Drive but the Sega version had a troubled history. Though finished and reviewed the Genesis port was pulled from release shortly before launch. The developer Malibu Interactive was later acquired by GameTek adding to the game’s murky legacy. The canceled Genesis version remains a curiosity among collectors while the earlier 1986 Time Trax title for 8-bit systems stands out for its music composed by Tim Follin. That older game’s soundtrack is still praised by retro gaming communities for its energetic chiptune style. The 1994 versions attempt to modernize the formula but struggle with dated visuals and uneven level design. Despite its short lifespan the game’s connection to 90s pop culture and unfinished history keep it remembered by niche audiences.
