About Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Remastered

Naughty Dog launched Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Remastered on PlayStation 4 in October 2015 as a visual upgrade to their 2007 original hit. This single-player adventure mixes third-person shooting with platforming and puzzle solving to tell the story of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. You follow Nate alongside reporter Elena Fisher and his mentor Sully as they chase rumors of El Dorado across pirate-infested islands and ancient ruins. The game retains the cinematic pacing that made the PS3 version famous while adding sharper textures and smoother frame rates for modern consoles. It serves as the opening chapter to a massive franchise that defined action-adventure storytelling on PlayStation.

Gameplay

You spend most moments climbing cliffs, swinging from ropes, or sliding down muddy slopes to reach higher ground. Combat relies on cover-based shooting where you peek out to eliminate mercenaries with a pistol or assault rifle before reloading. The engine handles movement fluidly so you can sprint, vault over obstacles, and grapple across gaps without clunky inputs. Between firefights you solve environmental puzzles involving pressure plates or finding keys in hidden rooms to unlock new areas. A typical session lasts hours as you cross jungles, explore sunken ships, and fight through forts while dialogue scenes advance the plot. You rarely stop moving because the level design constantly pushes you forward toward the next objective or checkpoint.

What Players Think

PlayPile data shows this title holds a solid 73.5 out of 100 score based on 134 user ratings on IGDB. Players report an average completion time of roughly 8 hours for the main story, with some veterans taking longer to find all collectibles. Community mood stays positive overall, though some reviewers note the graphics show their age compared to modern shooters. Review snippets frequently praise the character chemistry between Nate and Sully while others criticize the difficulty spikes in later chapters. The achievement list tracks progress through specific story beats, with many users aiming for 100% completion to unlock all trophies. This game remains a top choice for fans of narrative-driven action on the platform.

PlayPile's Take

This remaster is worth your time if you want to see where Nathan Drake's story began before playing newer entries. The price point makes it an easy add for any PlayStation 4 owner since it delivers a complete 8-hour campaign with no microtransactions. You will earn several achievements by finding hidden items and beating the game on different difficulty settings. The combat feels dated but the writing and set pieces still hold up well today. Skip this if you hate linear levels or need high-octane gunplay without much story. Buy it now to start the series chronologically rather than jumping into the fourth game directly.

Storyline

Treasure hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake (Nolan North), accompanied by reporter Elena Fisher (Emily Rose), recovers the coffin of his self-proclaimed ancestor Sir Francis Drake, having located it from coordinates inscribed on a family heirloom: a ring Nate wears around his neck. The coffin contains Sir Francis Drake's diary, which gives the location of El Dorado. Pirates attack and destroy Nate's boat, but Nate's friend and mentor Victor "Sully" Sullivan (Richard McGonagle) rescues the two in his seaplane. Fearing Elena's reporting will attract potential rivals, Nate and Sully abandon her at a dock. Following the diary to the indicated spot, Nate and Sully discover an alcove that once held a large statue, and realize that El Dorado is not a city but rather a golden idol. They find a Nazi U-boat, which contains a page from Drake's diary showing the statue was taken to an island. However, mercenaries led by criminal Gabriel Roman (Simon Templeman) and his lieutenant Atoq Navarro (Robin Atkin Downes) intercept Nate and Sully. Sully is seemingly killed by a shot to the chest, but Nate manages to escape, encounters Elena, and flies with her to the island. On the way, anti-aircraft fire forces Elena and Nate to bail out and they are separated. After retrieving supplies from the wrecked seaplane, Nate heads toward an old fort to find Elena. Briefly captured by pirates led by old associate Eddy Raja (James Sie), Elena breaks Nate free and they flee to the island's old customs house. After finding records showing the statue was moved further inland, they find that Sully is alive and accompanying Roman and Raja. Nate and Elena find and rescue Sully who, having survived due to Drake's diary blocking the bullet, explains he was buying time for Nate by giving Roman misinformation.
