This project aimed to bring players into a massive multiplayer world based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Amazon Games built it with Embracer Group to explore new angles on the source material instead of just copying the books or movies. Players would have navigated familiar lands and met classic characters in an open online environment designed for deep role-playing interactions. The team planned a fresh take that respected the lore while carving out its own path for long-term play. Unfortunately, Amazon shut down development in 2024 as part of a larger strategy to move away from big-budget MMOs. This cancellation leaves fans with no way to experience the promised content on PC or any other platform. The studio's decision signals a shift in focus that ends this specific chapter of Tolkien gaming before it ever began. There are no release dates or beta codes available since the project is now fully terminated.
