Utopia is a two-player strategy game where you build and defend your island nation on separate continents. You manage farms, housing, schools, hospitals, and factories while balancing military and disaster preparedness. Sabotage your opponent’s progress as you race to create a functional society. Each player must protect fishing fleets with PT boats, erect forts to avoid uprisings, and survive random hurricanes that disrupt operations. Launched in 1982 on Intellivision, Utopia is frequently credited as the first city-building game and a foundational title in real-time strategy. Its mix of base-building, sabotage mechanics, and environmental threats set it apart for its time. Some retro gaming communities argue it offers more depth than many contemporary 1980s strategy titles despite its simple graphics.
