Videocart-14: Sonar Search reimagines classic naval combat with a strategic audio twist. Players drop sonar charges onto a grid to locate hidden ships, using the pitch and length of ping sounds to judge proximity. A short blip means you're close a long tone signals you're far off. The single player mode challenges you to sink a fleet within a set number of shots while the two player variant turns it into a back and forth guessing game. Released in 1978 this cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F predates many modern strategy staples. It's one of the earliest examples of using sound as a gameplay mechanic a clever way to add tension to a turn based format. With no frills or visual flair it relies purely on clever design and the thrill of decoding audio cues. A forgotten relic of early console gaming that still works as a tight tactical challenge.
