"All in all, I did enjoy my time with Space War Arena. It wasn’t perfect, but for $14.99 this is a very solid and enjoyable game. Though I would have loved a few things to be different, I’d say this is an easy recommendation to any strategy fan. Granted, the game isn’t for everybody. But if you want a complex yet simple game that’s easy to play in quick bursts, then Space War Arena is the game for you."

Videocart-5 Space War is a two-player space combat shooter that lets you and a friend blast enemies in a sci-fi dogfight. You control a ship teleporting between sectors while firing missiles and dodging attacks. The Fairchild Channel F hardware handles the simple but frantic action in 1977. Controls are basic but responsive for the era. This game was one of the first cartridges released for console play. Its co-op mode was rare at the time letting players team up against waves of alien crafts. The "faster than speed of light" tagline nods to the rapid pacing. Though the graphics are rudimentary by modern standards it holds a place in early gaming history. Collector communities often note its significance as an early example of cooperative console play.
