"After months of missteps, Legion shows World of Warcraft finding its footing again and asserting its relevance after more than a decade. Many elements make this an expansion worth enjoying, including class halls, gigantic zones filled with memorable stories, better socialization, the actiony new Demon Hunter class, and world quests. The one big question mark is whether Blizzard can maintain that energy after launch, but so far the outlook seems promising."

About World of Warcraft

Blizzard Entertainment launched World of Warcraft on November 23, 2004 for PC and Mac systems. This title defined the massively multiplayer online role-playing genre by letting thousands of users inhabit a single persistent world together. You create a hero from the Warcraft universe to explore continents like Durotar or Stormwind while engaging in quests that drive the narrative forward. The game supports both cooperative play where groups tackle challenges and competitive scenarios for power and glory. It remains one of the most active titles on streaming platforms today, sitting at rank six on Twitch with an ever-growing roster of players ready to jump into the fray.

Gameplay

Your day-to-day loop involves completing quests that reveal lore while earning experience points to level up your character. You will spend hours grinding mobs for loot or joining raid groups to take down massive bosses with specific mechanics. The combat relies on a standard action bar of spells and abilities that require timing and resource management. Social interaction is central since you cannot progress far without forming parties or guilds to share resources and strategies. The game offers distinct zones for exploration, each filled with unique enemies and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered by the community.

What Players Think

Critics have been overwhelmingly positive over the years with Metacritic holding a 93 score and OpenCritic showing 98.08% of reviewers recommend it. PlayPile users gave it an 8.7 out of 10 rating based on three submissions. Community moods are heavily weighted toward Atmospheric, Story-Driven, and Emotional experiences with four votes each for those tags. Some players also find the cooperative nature and strategic depth compelling as indicated by their voting patterns. Recent reviews highlight expansions like Legion as peak achievements in the franchise's history. The game maintains a strong presence with thousands of concurrent users interacting across servers.

PlayPile's Take

This title is for anyone willing to commit hundreds of hours to a persistent online world. The subscription model and expansion costs add up quickly so check your budget before diving in. Achievements track your progress through decades of content updates ranging from original zones to modern raids. If you enjoy long-term social connections and complex group mechanics this fits your needs perfectly. Players who prefer short, isolated sessions might find the grind exhausting after a few weeks. The high critic scores reflect a deep library of content that justifies the time investment for dedicated fans.

Storyline

Intent on settling the arid region of Durotar, Thrall's new Horde expanded its ranks, inviting the undead Forsaken to join orcs, tauren, and trolls. Meanwhile, dwarves, gnomes and the ancient night elves pledged their loyalties to a reinvigorated Alliance, guided by the human kingdom of Stormwind. After Stormwind's king, Varian Wrynn, mysteriously disappeared, Highlord Bolvar Fordragon served as Regent but his service was marred by the manipulations and mind control of the black dragon Onyxia, who ruled in disguise as a human noblewoman. As heroes investigated Onyxia's manipulations, ancient foes surfaced in lands throughout the world to menace Horde and Alliance alike.

i have created and refined more game systems in world of warcraft than i would ever have guessed. over the last five years, i'm reasonably certain literally every person playing wow has benefitted from my work in some way. and probably has been annoyed by parts of it too. i am very good at my job.

"i'd rather be shit at the game than be a shit teammate" is the constant mindset i've set for myself for online games like overwatch and world of warcraft and i think a lot of people should have this mindset too

the game I played the most without question is world of warcraft which that and my guild got me through some really tough times and then we reunited again during covid If they would just keep releasing expansions with the classic/tbc way of things I would never play another video game again

I’ll never be able to afford to travel, so I take nice trips in World of Warcraft (video game). I visit foreign lands, meet their people, learn of their cultures. I camp & fish. On a bad day, I get on a gnome toon & throw myself in some lava, watch my tiny molten corpse float 🤣🤣🤣
