Black Widow Games

Founded 1997 Website

Black Widow Games was founded in 1997 to produce contractual game levels and mods for state-of-the-art 3D engines. From 1997 to 2003, the company released 14 contract-work game projects based on the Quake and Half-Life technologies, freely distributed as promotional material for the marketing campaigns of a TV series, game magazine, web news site and a theatrical movie. In 2004, the level of detail and complexity required for high quality game content increased significantly after the arrival of next generation game engines, mainly UT2003/4, Doom 3, FarCry and Half-Life 2. As a consequence, it finally became impractical for low budget promotional projects to keep competing at the same level with commercial game companies. Instead of reducing its activities and produce less ambitious projects, Black Widow Games decided for the opposite approach and expanded into a commercial company, starting the production of They Hunger: Lost Souls.
