Butterscotch Shenanigans

United States Website

Butterscotch Shenanigans is a fiercely independent game studio of three brothers (Adam, Seth, Sam) located in St. Louis, MO and Dallas, TX. We make mechanically tight, aesthetically pleasing, loop-driven games with a dash of story and a heaping ladle of absurdity. Our core game portfolio (Quadropus Rampage, Towelfight 2, Flop Rocket, and Roid Rage) is primarily designed for mobile, though we are shifting towards platform-agnosticism (meaning our games will play just as well on mobile and desktop) starting with our upcoming title, Crashlands. What allows this transtion is our new game service, BscotchID, now integrated into our core portfolio on iTunes and Google Play.

Butterscotch Shenanigans at a Glance

Butterscotch Shenanigans operates as a fiercely independent studio founded by three brothers in St. Louis and Dallas. The company has been active from 2013 through 2025, releasing twelve games in total with eleven titles published under their own name. Their output was heavily concentrated in the 2010s where they produced eight games, but activity slowed significantly in the 2020s with only one release recorded so far. This recent title is Crashlands 2, which launched in April 2025 and holds a rating of 83 out of 100. The studio focuses heavily on mobile platforms, with eight titles available on Android and seven on iOS. They have also reached PC users through Microsoft Windows and Mac, alongside smaller releases on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Their genre portfolio is diverse but leans toward Indie games with five entries, followed by four Adventure titles and three Simulators. Other genres in their catalog include Role-playing, Strategy, Platform, Hack and slash, Shooter, and Arcade. Quality trends show a generally positive reception for their work. Across the three titles rated on IGDB, they hold an average score of 78.8. Their best-rated game is the recent sequel Crashlands 2 at 83 points. They also have two other well-received titles: Levelhead from 2019 with a score of 77.5 and the original Crashlands from 2016 rated at 76. The remaining nine games in their catalog do not have IGDB ratings listed, but their history suggests a consistent focus on loop-driven mechanics and absurd storytelling. The brothers started with mobile-first projects like Flop Rocket in 2014 and Freeway Mutant in 2016. They later shifted toward platform-agnostic designs with the release of Crashlands, aiming to make games playable on both mobile and desktop using their BscotchID service. While they have a strong track record with their major releases, the lack of recent output outside of the 2025 sequel suggests a slower development pace in recent years.
