"Coconut Island is an independent game studio based in Shanghai, China. Founded in 2009, we’re committed to creating innovative games of all kinds that we really love to play ourselves. Most of our members have worked for years at famous companies in game industry like Konami and Autodesk. Our games have been won many awards and nominations at IGF China, Unity Awards. More recently, we released Naughty Kitties and One Tap Hero on Xbox One and PS Vita as one of the first Chinese developers making console games. We also help to organize China’s biggest indie games community/conference IndieACE with our own experience as earliest Chinese indie."
Coconut Island Games is a Shanghai-based studio founded in 2009 that has released fifteen titles on PlayPile. The company operated actively from 2016 through 2021, releasing nine games during the 2010s and six more in the 2020s. Their portfolio shows a heavy focus on indie titles, with twelve entries in that category. They also lean heavily into adventure, simulator, role-playing, and strategy genres. PC Microsoft Windows is their primary platform with twelve releases, followed by Nintendo Switch, Mac, and iOS which each have eight games. They have also reached PlayStation 4, Android, Linux, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, though the latter three platforms have only one release each. The studio has a mixed record regarding critical reception. Out of seven titles that have received ratings on IGDB, none achieved a great score above 80 points. Six games landed in the good range between 60 and 79, while one title fell into the mixed category between 40 and 59. No games received poor scores below 40. Their highest-rated works include Luna: The Shadow Dust from 2020 with a score of 76.5, followed closely by Necrobarista which also released in 2020 at 76.2. Detention from 2017 holds the third spot at 75.8. Other notable titles like Esports Legend and Chinese Parents scored in the low 70s and high 60s respectively. Recent activity includes A Perfect Day released in February 2021 and Rhythm Fighter in May 2020. The studio claims to have members with experience at major companies like Konami and Autodesk. They also participated in organizing IndieACE, described as China's largest indie games conference. While they were among the first Chinese developers to publish on Xbox One and PS Vita, their overall output remains relatively small compared to larger publishers. Their catalog spans various styles from point-and-click adventures to music games, but the data suggests a consistent pattern of average to good results rather than critical darlings or commercial blockbusters.
