Overkill Software is a Swedish developer founded in 2009 that operated from 2011 through 2018. They released eleven games as a developer but never published any titles themselves. The studio focused heavily on shooter games with ten releases in that category, followed by seven role-playing titles and two tactical entries. Their work appeared on six different platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Switch. The company's output during the 2010s consisted of nine games while their overall rating history shows a mixed quality trend. Across six titles rated by IGDB, they hold an average score of 62.1 out of 100. This breaks down into four good rated games and two that received mixed reviews. They did not produce any titles rated as great or poor in the data set provided. Their highest scoring release was Payday 2: Crimewave Edition from 2015 with a score of 75.9. Payday 2 itself came next at 74.4, and the original Payday: The Heist scored 71.2 in 2011. As time passed their performance fluctuated significantly. Overkill's The Walking Dead launched in November 2018 with a score of 49.8, marking one of their lower-rated projects. Earlier that same year they released Payday 2 VR in March, and before that Payday: Crime War in December 2017 received a score of 41.4. Several editions of Payday 2 appeared between 2016 and 2017 with scores ranging from 60 to 75.9. The data suggests their later years included more variation in quality compared to their earlier work where they consistently hit the good rating range. You might notice that while the company started strong with solid shooter mechanics, their later releases like Payday: Crime War showed a drop in player reception. They worked alongside Starbreeze Studios after 2012 and moved offices in Stockholm. Their catalog remains defined by cooperative heist gameplay rather than broad genre exploration. If you are looking for shooters from this era, their earlier Payday titles offer the most consistent experience while their later efforts show more risk with inconsistent results.
