Petroglyph Games is an independent company with talented people and a strong culture which gives us the flexibility to create the kind of games we all want to play. Founded in 2004 by ex-Westwood developers, combined, the founders have over 100 years experience in shipping award-winning, chart-topping titles. Their expertise range from PC to next-generation game consoles – from fast paced Real-Time Strategy and Simulation, to Action and Adventure games.
Petroglyph Games is a United States based studio founded in 2003 that has released twenty games on PlayPile since starting operations in 2006. The company was established by former Westwood developers who bring over one hundred years of combined experience to their projects. While the team aims for flexibility in their design approach, their catalog shows a heavy reliance on specific genres. Strategy is their primary focus with fourteen titles, followed closely by Real Time Strategy games at thirteen entries. They have also explored Indie and Simulator genres seven and five times respectively, though they have dipped into other areas like MOBA, Card & Board Game, Adventure, and Role-playing just once each. The studio operates almost exclusively on PC with nineteen of their twenty titles available there. Consoles play a minor role, with three games for PlayStation 4, three for Xbox One, two for Xbox 360, and single releases on Mac and Linux. Their output has grown over the decades as well. The company released only three games in the 2000s but saw significant activity in the 2010s with twelve titles. They have slowed down slightly in the current decade with four releases so far. Quality varies across their portfolio, but the majority of their work lands in the good range. Out of fourteen rated titles, they hold one great score and ten good ratings between 60 and 79 points. Only three games received mixed scores between 40 and 59 points, and none fell into the poor category. The average rating sits at 68.8 out of 100. Several specific titles stand out for their higher scores, including Forged Battalion from 2018, which earned an 80/100. They also achieved top marks with Command & Conquer: Red Alert Remastered and Command & Conquer: Remastered in 2020, both scoring 80/100. Grey Goo from 2015 reached 76.6, while Panzer General: Allied Assault from 2009 earned 75. Recent releases like The Great War: Western Front in March 2023 scored 74/100, and the most recent entry, 9-Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far, came out in August 2024 without a rating yet.
