Quintet at a Glance

Quintet was a Japanese company founded in Tokyo by Tomoyoshi Miyazaki and Masaya Hashimoto, who previously worked on Nihon Falcom's Ys games. The studio operated from 1990 to 2004 before becoming inactive and shutting down its website in 2008. During their time, they released a total of 12 games on PlayPile, serving as the developer for 11 titles and the publisher for 2. Their output was heavily concentrated in the 1990s with 10 games, while the 2000s saw only two releases. The company had a strong relationship with Enix, particularly on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System where they released six titles. They also published heavily on the Super Famicom and Satellaview. Their catalog spans several genres, with Role-playing games being the most common at six entries, followed by five Adventure games. Other genres include Platform, Strategy, Racing, Visual Novel, and Simulator. While their primary focus was console gaming on systems like the Super Nintendo and PlayStation, they also released titles for the Wii U, Sega Saturn, and Arcade machines. Quality trends show a generally high standard for Quintet. Across seven rated titles, they hold an average IGDB rating of 80.8 out of 100. Three of their games are rated as great with scores above 80, and four others fall into the good range between 60 and 79. They have no mixed or poor-rated entries in this dataset. Their top-rated title is Terranigma from 1995, which scored 89.5. Other highly regarded games include Planet Laika at 82.1, Illusion of Gaia at 80.9, ActRaiser 2 at 79.4, and Robotrek at 79.3. These earlier works are often grouped as the "Gaia" series along with Soul Blazer. The later years of the studio show a shift in their output. After the 1990s peak, their 2000s releases included InuYasha: The Secret of the Cursed Mask and Simple 1500 Series Vol. 78: The Zero Yon. Planet Laika appeared again in October 1999 as one of their more successful late-period entries. Code R was released in July 1998, and Chou Hatsumei Boy Kani Pan followed later that same year. The data suggests a decline in both volume and variety as the studio moved into the new millennium before ceasing operations entirely.
