Ubisoft Blue Byte

Germany Founded 2017 Website

Blue Byte became a subsidiary of Ubisoft in 2001. The company's name was officially changed to Ubisoft Blue Byte in 2017 followed by a 3rd studio being opened under the group name. In 2019 it was announced that Ubisoft Blue Byte's 3 studios would be separated into their own Ubisoft branded studios, in preparation for a possible expansion, located in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Mainz. The studios will continue to work under and/or use the Ubisoft Blue Byte name as a label.

Ubisoft Blue Byte at a Glance

Ubisoft Blue Byte is a German developer that operates under the larger Ubisoft group. While the studio was acquired by Ubisoft in 2001, it adopted its current official name in 2017 after opening a third location. The company has been active since 2008 and currently lists 21 games on PlayPile as a developer, though none appear under the publisher label. Their portfolio spans three decades with a clear shift in output volume. They released only one game in the 2000s. The 2010s saw their most prolific period with 13 titles. Activity slowed slightly in the 2020s where they have seven releases so far through 2025. Their focus is heavily skewed toward strategy and simulation games. Strategy is their dominant genre with 17 entries, followed closely by simulator titles at 13. They also produce Real Time Strategy games and a few sports titles. PC remains their primary platform with 16 releases, while console support is limited to just a few ports for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and older systems like the Wii. Their catalog includes web browser games and mobile entries on Android. Quality trends for Ubisoft Blue Byte are mixed despite some standout hits. The average rating across nine scored titles sits at 64.1 out of 100. Three games have achieved great status with scores above 80, including Anno 1800 from 2019 and the recently released Anno 117: Pax Romana in late 2025. The Anno 1404: History Edition also scored well at 80.2. However, four titles fall into the mixed range between 40 and 59 points. Their recent release of The Settlers: New Allies in 2023 received a 60 rating, which sits on the border between good and mixed. While their top-rated games show strong performance, the overall average indicates inconsistent quality across their wider catalog. They continue to operate studios in Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Mainz while maintaining the Ubisoft Blue Byte label for their projects.
