Vlambeer at a Glance

Vlambeer is a Dutch developer based in Utrecht that operated from 2010 until 2023. The studio was originally led by Jan Willem Nijman and Rami Ismail, but after announcing the cessation of operations in 2020, Nijman took sole ownership in 2024 to preserve their games. They have released 12 titles on PlayPile, acting as a developer for 11 of them and a publisher for 7. The company was most active during the 2010s with nine games, while only two releases appeared in the 2020s. Their catalog leans heavily into arcade and shooter genres, with eight arcade titles and six shooters in their library. They also made three sport games, two strategy entries, and single releases in adventure, simulator, platform, turn-based strategy, and tactical categories. PC platforms saw the most support with seven ports to Microsoft Windows, followed by five Mac versions and four Linux builds. Their reach extended to mobile devices like iOS and Android with three and two titles respectively, alongside PlayStation Vita and Nintendo Switch support. Quality trends for Vlambeer show consistent performance within the good range. Five rated titles sit between 60 and 79 points, with zero games falling into the mixed or poor categories. No title reached the great threshold of 80 points. Their highest rated game is Luftrausers from 2014 at 79.5. Super Crate Box from their founding year in 2010 sits close behind at 79.4. Ridiculous Fishing (2013) and Nuclear Throne (2015) also performed well with scores of 78.7 and 78.2. Gun Godz from 2013 received a lower score of 68.2. Recent activity includes the 2023 release of Ridiculous Fishing EX and the 2020 launch of Ffflood. The studio also released LuftrauserZ in late 2017. While their output slowed significantly after 2015, Nijman's recent move to maintain the library suggests a focus on legacy rather than new development. Players looking for arcade shooters from this period will find a reliable list of options that generally avoid poor scores.
