Fishbowl Preview: A Coming-of-Age Story From a Two-Person Team in Goa

Grief does not wait for convenient timing. Neither does isolation. Fishbowl puts you in the apartment of Alo, a young woman drowning in both, and asks what it means to keep going when everything feels stuck.

The game launches April 2 on Steam and PlayStation 5 for $9.99. If you pre-ordered on PS5, early access starts today, March 30.

Made by Two People Over Five Years

Rhea Gupte and Prateek Saxena are imissmyfriends.studio. The name says a lot about what they were feeling when development started in 2021. What began as a side project became full-time work by 2023, and Sony selected Fishbowl for their India Hero Project shortly after.

The studio operates from Goa, India. Before making games, Prateek worked as a UX designer at a non-profit. Rhea worked as a writer and multidisciplinary artist. This is their first game.

A Month in Isolation

Fishbowl takes place over one month. You video call loved ones. You work from home as a video editor, handling files through a matching game mechanic. You sort through puzzles that unlock childhood memories. You do small care tasks to keep yourself going.

One day at a time.

Alo receives help from an unlikely source: Paplet, a magical talking fish from her childhood. Together they examine events from the past, interpret dreams, and figure out what comes next.

No Bad Endings

The developers designed Fishbowl without failure states. There are no bad endings, just different paths depending on your choices. The focus is reflection, not punishment. Who do you want Alo to become?

Expect around 7 to 10 hours to complete the story.
