ABOUT SARA NGUYEN

Mom of two, gamer for life. I find the best games you can actually finish between school runs and bedtime stories.

Some games stick with you. Ghost Master was one of those games for a lot of people back in 2003. A supernatural strategy puzzler where you command an army of ghosts to terrify the living? It was weird, funny, and completely unlike anything else. Now Mechano Story Studio is bringing it back with Ghost Master: Resurrection, launching March 20, 2026.

What Made the Original Special

Ghost Master put you in charge of a squad of spectral beings. Your job was to haunt locations across the town of Gravenville, scaring mortals, solving puzzles, and completing objectives. Each ghost had unique abilities. Some could possess objects. Others could create cold spots or manifest terrifying visions. The puzzle was figuring out how to combine their powers to achieve maximum terror.

The game had personality to spare. Campy horror movie references, quirky ghost designs, missions that ranged from clearing out a frat house to infiltrating secret labs. It was strategy with a sense of humor, and nothing else quite scratched that itch.

What Resurrection Changes

This is not a simple remaster. Mechano Story Studio rebuilt the game from the ground up. New engine, modern visuals, refined mechanics, enhanced AI for your ghost minions. The developers describe it as a "complete modern overhaul" that stays faithful to the original formula.

The 11 locations from the original have been reimagined with more detail and atmosphere. Asylums, sorority houses, police stations, secret labs. Each one packed with secrets and scare opportunities.

The ghost roster has been expanded and polished. Over a dozen types of specters, banshees, and ghouls, each with distinct personalities and haunting styles. The puzzle design emphasizes multi-branching missions with hidden content to discover.

New Content and DLC

Resurrection spent over a year in Early Access on PC, and that time added substantial new content. Physical editions for PS5 and Switch include four DLC packs:

  • Until Dawn: A new level on Elm Street with its own game mode
  • Ghosts Adrift: Random mode haunting on Neibolt Street
  • Ghostly Defense: A defense mode on Ocean Avenue featuring a new Pets System
  • Ashes and Abyss: New specters named Bathys and Pyro, plus Marine and Gas Station levels

Digital console editions include the Until Dawn and Ghosts Adrift packs. The base game alone offers plenty, but completionists will want to hunt down the full package.

Platforms and Release

Ghost Master: Resurrection launches March 20, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Physical editions are available for PS5 and Switch.

If you played the original and wondered why nobody made anything like it since, this is your answer. And if you missed Ghost Master the first time around, Resurrection looks like the definitive way to experience what made it a cult classic.
