Mom of two, gamer for life. I find the best games you can actually finish between school runs and bedtime stories.

Neverway looks like a cozy farming game until you read the description. You play as Fiona, who quits her dead-end job and starts fresh on a remote island farm. Standard stuff. Then you become the immortal herald of a dead god and spend your days preventing a nightmare reality from leaking into yours.
The Team Behind It
Coldblood Inc is making their debut with serious creative firepower. The pixel art comes from the artist behind Celeste, and if you have played that game, you know what that means: expressive characters, beautiful environments, and animation that punches well above typical indie budgets.
The soundtrack is by Disasterpeace. If that name rings a bell, it should. He composed the music for Hyper Light Drifter, Fez, and the film It Follows. His work tends to be atmospheric, unsettling, and memorable. For a game blending cozy life sim with slow-burning horror, this pairing makes perfect sense.
How It Plays
Neverway splits its time between two modes. During the day, you farm, fish, craft, and build relationships with over ten characters on the island. Time moves in blocks: morning, afternoon, and evening. You control when to advance, giving you space to manage your activities.
Each character has their own routines and storylines. Bonds unlock combat abilities and buffs, so the social elements directly impact gameplay. You can pursue romance with some characters, and the game asks an interesting question throughout: will you tell them the truth about what you have become, or will you lie?
Combat is top-down and fast-paced, designed to feel responsive on both keyboard and controller. Crafted items let you customize your playstyle, and the combat abilities from character bonds add another layer of build variety.
The Horror Element
The slow burn is the key phrase here. Neverway is not jump scares and gore. The horror comes from the premise: you are indebted to a dead god, searching for a nightmare reality that bleeds into the waking world. The cozy farming contrasts with the existential dread lurking underneath.
This tonal blend is unusual and risky. Games that try to be two things at once often fail at both. But the creative talent involved suggests Coldblood knows what they are doing. The pixel art and music alone set a mood that few games achieve.
What We Know So Far
Neverway is confirmed for PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. A 2026 release window has been announced, but no specific date yet. The game has been building anticipation quietly, appearing on multiple most-anticipated lists for indie games this year.
For anyone who loves life sims but wants something with teeth, or horror fans looking for something that takes its time, Neverway is worth watching closely.
