About

Aussie Rules Footy brings the fast-paced action of Australian rules football to the Nintendo Entertainment System. Developed by Beam Software and published by Mattel, this 1991 title lets players compete in head to head matches as teams from the 1991 AFL season including fictional clubs like Darwin and Canberra. Play solo against the AI or challenge a friend in two player mode. The game sticks to straightforward match play without season or career modes focusing on quick bouts of kick catch and tackle. Released exclusively in Australia the game holds a unique spot as the first AFL simulation for the NES. While its lack of long term structure might feel limiting the direct approach suits casual play sessions. With no official follow ups or wider releases it remains a rare piece of 90s sports gaming history. Niche but true to the sport's physical style it's a curious relic for collectors and fans of regional sports titles.

Storyline

Aussie Rules Footy is, as the name suggests, a game that allows the player to play Australian rules football. The teams in the game are based off of the 1991 AFL season, in addition to the fictional teams Darwin, Canberra, and Hobart. Season play was not available-players were limited to playing individual games at a time.
