Space Battle tasks you with fending off waves of enemy ships using three squadrons. You control a mothership under siege from six alien fleets, each with varying numbers of targets. The action unfolds in a top-down view as you fire at invaders while avoiding their return fire. Your goal is to eliminate all threats before they overwhelm your base. Controls are straightforward but demand quick reflexes to dodge incoming photon blasts. Released in late 1979, it’s one of the earliest space combat games on home consoles. Though rudimentary by modern standards, its tense wave-based gameplay earned a cult following among retro gaming circles. With its simple yet addictive mechanics, it holds a 7.2 average on the Atari Age message boards. The Intellivision version offers slightly smoother graphics but both editions capture the same chaotic energy of dogfights in deep space.
