ASCII Corporation at a Glance

If you are browsing PlayPile looking for information on ASCII Corporation, you will find a Japanese publisher that was active from 1982 to 2000. The company released 57 games in total according to our records, with 52 of those credits as a publisher and 24 as a developer. Their catalog shows a heavy focus on the MSX platform, which accounts for 19 of their titles, followed by the PC-8800 Series and PC-9800 Series with eight games each. They also released content for the Family Computer, Sharp X1, PlayStation, Super Famicom, DOS, and Game Boy. The company operated primarily during the 1980s when they produced 32 games. Output dropped to 23 titles in the 1990s before falling to just one game in the 2000s. Their genre focus leans heavily toward Role-playing games with 15 titles and Adventure games with 13. They also have a presence in Arcade, Simulator, Shooter, Platform, Puzzle, Card & Board Game, Sport, and Visual Novel categories. Their rating history shows mostly good results rather than critical acclaim. Across five rated titles on PlayPile, the average score is 63.3 out of 100. There are no great games in their collection with scores above 80. Four titles fall into the good range between 60 and 79, while one title sits in the mixed category. The highest rated game is Ardy Lightfoot from 1993 at 70.1. RPG Maker 2000 released in April 2000 scored 70.0, followed by AeroGauge from 1997 at 67.9. Castlequest from 1985 holds a score of 61.2, and Wizardry: Legacy of Llylgamyn - The Third Scenario from 1983 has a rating of 47.2. Recent releases before the company merged with MediaWorks in 2008 included True Love Story 2 in January 1999, Kasei Monogatari in October 1998, End Sector in September 1998, and Linda Cube Kanzenban in June 1998. ASCII Corporation is known for the Derby Stallion series and the RPG Maker software line, but their game catalog on PlayPile reflects a steady output that tapered off significantly after the 1990s.
