Raizing

Japan Founded 1993

Raizing was founded in 1993, being one of the companies which emerged from Toaplan upon its bankruptcy (alongside Cave, Takumi and Gazelle), being formed by former staff of both Toaplan and Compile. The company was well known for its many shoot 'em up titles, with some of its staff including famous shmup designer Shinobu Yagawa, as well as the Basiscape music composer team formed by Manabu Namiki, Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata. Raizing worked closely together with Eighting, working on the games' production and development while Eighting worked on sales and distribution. Raizing was eventually merged into Eighting in 2000.

Raizing at a Glance

If you are browsing PlayPile to find a developer with a strong history in Japanese arcade shooters, you should look at Raizing. This studio operated from 1993 until 2016 and released a total of 12 games on this platform. The company formed after the bankruptcy of Toaplan, drawing staff from both Toaplan and Compile. While they produced titles for many systems including PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and GameCube, their work is most defined by arcade hardware with nine of their twelve listed games built for that environment. Raizing focused heavily on the shooter genre with eight titles in that category. They also made six arcade games and two fighting games alongside single entries in racing and puzzle genres. Their output peaked in the 1990s when they released nine games. Activity slowed significantly in the 2000s with only two releases, and dropped to a single game in the 2010s. The studio worked closely with Eighting for production while that partner handled sales before Raizing merged into Eighting in 2000. Despite this merger, they continued releasing games years later, such as Battle Garegga Rev.2016. The quality of their catalog is generally solid. Their average rating across five tracked titles sits at 70.8 out of 100. There are no poor or mixed ratings in the data provided. One title stands out with a great score of 84.5 for Battle Garegga Rev.2016. Another strong entry from 1997 is Armed Police Batrider at 69.9. Other notable works include Battle Garegga from 1996 and Bloody Roar 2 from 1999. Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2 holds a score of 63, while Brave Blade and Ghoul Panic round out their recent history. Some of their staff included the famous shooter designer Shinobu Yagawa and composers from the team Basiscape. The music for their games often came from Manabu Namiki, Hitoshi Sakimoto, or Masaharu Iwata. While their volume of releases dwindled after the turn of the millennium, their later work on Battle Garegga showed they could still deliver high scores. If you enjoy classic vertical shooters or fighting games from Japan, Raizing offers a specific niche that remains active even decades after their founding.
